Cambrian Wool 4ply is a plump 4-ply weight British Wool yarn that will work beautifully for 4-ply patterns and is also perfect for sport weight patterns. As it is on the plump side for a 4-ply I'd definitely recommend swatching with it for standard 4-ply patterns to check you're happy with the fabric but it will make a lovely, dense fabric at a standard 4-ply gauge.
Cambrian Wool started life as a CIC (Community Interest Company) and, although the business is in new hands and no longer run under a CIC structure, is still dedicated to supporting the local rural economy. A wonderful initiative that just so happens to produce wonderful yarn!
Cambrian Wool dyed yarns are spun from finest Welsh Mule, described as Bluefaced Leicester with character! The Welsh Mule comes about by crossing the local hill breeds with a Bluefaced Leicester ram, and this cross improves the wool. Suited to clothing, this yarn has a good definition whilst developing a nice halo. Hand wash and don’t tumble dry!
Cambrian wool is produced on farms throughout the Cambrian Mountains Region, which encompasses much of Mid Wales – a stunningly beautiful and wild area.
