About

Hi there!

I'm Nicky, the founder and owner of All About The Yarn.

I am an avid knitter and I can turn my hand to crochet, needle felting, punch needle, embroidery, weaving, spinning - I'm just a big fan of fibre crafts in general and am passionate about sharing that love and my skills with other people.

I've been running my yarn business since 2018 and one of the greatest pleasures has been evolving the yarns that I offer to reflect my own values so that I can look my customers in the eye and say that I really would want to knit with every yarn that I stock. I love yarns that tell a story, it might be traceability of a locally sourced yarn from sheep to shop, or organic yarns which have strict conditions on animal welfare, human labour and ecological impact, recycled yarns that mean no new materials were needed for production, or British Wools that are reared and spun in the UK.

My favourite thing is to work with other small independent businesses because collectively we can champion quality, make our voices more powerful and support each other’s work to the benefit of crafters everywhere. When I work with larger suppliers, I am now in a place where I can choose to work with suppliers that I believe align with my own values and offer excellent quality and service.

ALL ABOUT THE YARN

In May 2022 I moved the business from a high street shop in Frome to a modern, light, airy unit with stunning views over the Somerset countryside at Chesterblade Hills, near Shepton Mallet. We are open for browsing on Saturdays 10am - 4pm with yarns, books and accessories for knitters, crocheters and other fibre crafts.

Chesterblade is the perfect venue for meet-ups, pop-up shops and our varied programme of fibre craft courses from a range of lovely, friendly tutors including workshops on knitting, crochet, needle felting, punch needle, spinning, weaving and visible mending. If you would like to arrange 1-1 knitting or crochet lessons then just drop us an email: info@allabouttheyarn.co.uk. We can also arrange one-off personalised classes for groups of 4 - 6 people, perfect for hen-dos, birthday treats or just if you and a few friends want to learn a particular technique.

If you want to be kept up-to-date with what's going on at All About The Yarn then you can sign up for my email updates and follow me on social media at the bottom of this page.
