Beara by Hey Mama Wolf is a wool alpaca blend yarn spun in Ireland at the renowned Donegal Yarns mill. Made with Irish wool and UK alpaca, this DK/light worsted yarn has a rustic, crisp handle – perfect for knitting jumpers, cardigans, shawls, and accessories. Each 100g skein gives you 212 metres of durable, warm yarn with a natural heathered character.

This yarn is woollen spun, giving it bounce and versatility. It works beautifully at a gauge of 18–20 stitches per 10 cm, making it ideal for aran or worsted weight patterns. It can also be knitted at a tighter DK gauge of around 22 stitches per 10 cm if you prefer a firmer fabric – perfect for a hard-wearing jumper or accessories.

This yarn is named after Cailleach Bhéarra – the legendary Hag of Beara, a goddess from Irish folklore who embodies the power of nature and landscape. Like its namesake, Beara connects you to place and season, carrying the story of the Irish wool heritage.

By blending wool from different Irish sheep breeds, Beara supports small farms and helps keep traditional shepherding alive. Choosing this yarn means supporting sustainable farming, local production, and the preservation of Ireland’s rich fibre traditions.
