🌷 A New Name for an Old Favourite
Sometimes a pattern just needs a little breathing space to bloom.
I first released this shawl a few years ago under the name Campfire Shawl – and while I’ve always loved its simple lace motifs and relaxing rhythm, the name never quite captured the heart of the design. The inspiration originally came from camping trips – those golden evenings when the sun dips behind the hills and I find myself needing something to throw around my shoulders as the fire gets going.
But I always regretted not naming the shawl after its stylised tulip motif.
So this summer, I’ve taken the chance to revisit the pattern completely:
🧶 The instructions have been rewritten for clarity and ease
📐 The layout is refreshed with a cleaner, more spacious design
🎥 I’ve added tutorial videos to guide you through the key steps – including this new tassel tutorial which is already live on my YouTube channel.
And of course, the shawl now has a new name to better reflect its character:
The Tulip Shawl 🌷

What’s in the kit?
The Tulip Shawl launch kit has been carefully put together to feel like a little seasonal gift to yourself – or to a friend who loves slow summer stitches.
Inside each box you’ll find:
– 3 x 50g balls of BC Garn Summer in Kashmir – a soft, GOTS-certified cotton/cashmere blend, and the original yarn the shawl was designed for
– A printed copy of the newly updated pattern
– An organic cotton project bag to keep everything tidy – perfect for storing your yarn and shawl-in-progress as it grows
– An exclusive printed “tassel card” – created especially for the kit, included as a useful and beautiful extra
– A set of exclusive stitch markers made by Janet – simple, elegant, and only available as part of this kit
– A few thoughtful extras to surprise you
– All carefully wrapped and packed in a magnetic-close gift box, for a touch of joy when it arrives through your door

What’s changed?
The core of the pattern remains the same – so if you already own the Campfire Shawl, that pattern still works. But you’ll automatically receive a copy of the updated version, and I’d be delighted if you joined in the Knit-Along and made the shawl again with fresh eyes and yarn.
This relaunch continues a shift I’ve been planning for a while – to make my patterns not just clear and enjoyable to use, but supported. With my Fresh Shoots toe-up sock pattern I introduced this new format, and over the coming months I’ll be gradually updating more of my existing designs. All new patterns will follow this same approach, with a thoughtful layout and short video guides to help you feel confident at every step.
The Tulip Shawl Knit-Along
To celebrate the relaunch, I’ll be hosting a slow and gentle guided Knit-Along this summer – a chance to cast on something soothing and beautiful, with a little support along the way.
We’ll begin with Cast-On Week, running from Saturday 28th June to Saturday 5th July – giving you plenty of time to swatch, pick your needles, find a quiet moment to cast on, and settle into the rhythm of the stitches.
The Knit-Along will run for 8 weeks in total, through to Friday 22nd August, with space to knit at your own pace and enjoy the process.
Each week, I’ll share:
– a short video exclusively for Knit-Along participants
– tips and tricks
– answers to any questions that have come up
– and a bit of my own progress too
You’re welcome to share your updates by tagging @allabouttheyarn on social media or simply sending a quick photo by email – whatever suits you best.
If enough local knitters join in, I’d love to arrange a little in-person meet-up. For those further afield, I’ll host a wrap-up Zoom session near the end – no pressure to finish, just a chance to chat and share what we’ve made (or started!).
Kits will be available to order from Saturday 21st June – my way of celebrating the Summer Solstice – and I’d love to have you along.
With sunshine and stitches,
Nicky x
